When leaders consume too much and meddle too much, the people suffer. They may even become indifferent to death because their lives are so burdened.

Chapter 75

The people are hungry:
It is because those in authority eat up too much in taxes
That the people are hungry.
The people are difficult to govern.
It is because those in authority are too meddlesome
That the people are difficult to govern.
The people make light of dying
Because of the greatness of their labors in seeking for the means of living.
It is this which makes them think light of dying.
Thus it is that to leave the subject of living altogether out of view is better than to set a high value on it.

What's Master DudeWay Say?

Let's take a page from Robin Hood. He saw the Sheriff of Nottingham hoarding resources and meddling in the lives of the people, creating a system where they were starving and desperate. So, he did what he could to rebalance the scales, understanding that it's not life itself that's precious, but how you live it.

Dudeism Abides

The Dude would tell you, man, if the big shots up there hoard all the resources, it's no wonder people are going hungry. And if they keep interfering in everything, it's no wonder folks can't abide. And why wouldn't people risk it all when they've got nothing left to lose?

Leaders hoard and meddle,
People starve and risk it all,
Balance brings peace, settle.
