When the government is lazy and dull, its people are unspoiled; When the government is efficient and smart, its people are discontented.

Chapter 60

Governing a large country is like frying a small fish.
You spoil it with too much poking.
Center your country in the Tao and evil will have no power.
Not that it isn't there, but you'll be able to step out of its way.
Give evil nothing to oppose and it will disappear by itself.

What's Master DudeWay Say?

Remember the tune "Don't Worry Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin? It's all about chilling out, not sweating the small stuff. If you're running a big show, like a country, you gotta keep your cool just like frying a small fish. Too much fuss and you'll mess it up. Let the Tao guide your actions, then all that bad mojo, all the evil, will have no stage to perform. It'll fade away like an old song.

Dudeism Abides

It's like Ferris Bueller said, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." Same goes for governments, man. Sometimes, slower is better. Keep it chill and let the Tao guide the way

Frying a small fish,
Tao guides without a swish,
Evil will vanish.
